Call Me Cleo(patra)

What's your favorite project? For me, it's often the one I just finished. Right now, that's Feathers of Pharaohs by 10 Hours Or Less. I've loved this design since it was first posted on Ravelry. I got a great deal on two colors (Redwood and Honey) of Shibui Staccato yarn at Knit Purl in Portland during last spring's Rose City Yarn Crawl. This merino and silk yarn was fabulous to work with. I wanted a third color for this project so I dove into my stash for a dark teal Marion Foale wool that my sister had sent me for my birthday. The Marion Foale is a bit lighter weight than the Staccato, but it wasn't a problem. I'm thrilled with how it came out, and can't wait to wear it.

What about you? What's your current favorite project? The one you just finished? The one you're working on? Or the one you're dreaming of?

  1. Love how the Feathers of Pharaohs came out.

I'm dreaming of what to do with about 90 yards of "variable
chunky" hand spun wool I just bought at one of the huge, annual holiday craft fairs locally. How about a posting on patterns for that type of yarn? It's diameter varies from very fine so super chunky. Can you do a hat reasonably well with this or is a simple patterned scarf, shawl or cowl better? HELP!

    1. That's some challenging yarn you bought. There's not a lot of yardage. You might be able to squeak out a hat. I think a small cowl/neck warmer might be more likely. I agree that a simple stitch pattern would be best. Have you tried searching Ravelry using "homespun" as a keyword.

    2. I had a 90-something-yard skein of yarn, and Moogly just posted a pattern for a cowl using a 64-yard skein of superbulky. She added a hat pattern, too. You might have more than enough yarn to make it. Take a look: http://www.mooglyblog.com/hurry-up-holiday-cowl/

    3. My sister made me a lovely neckwarmer out of some very similar yarn - she knitted it in the round and added some simple chunky cables. Can you knit? If so I'd be glad to send a photo if you wanted to try something similar. I think this kind of yarn is better suited to knitting than to crochet (though I feel like a traitor saying it).

    4. Noooo, not a knitter! I find working with one metal implement all I can handle. :> Have you seen anything similar to what you describe but in crochet? I'm leaning towards a hat. Maybe.

  2. Beautiful shawl!

My favorite project is DEFINITELY not what I'm working on currently. I know the Tardis will be cool when it's done but I feel like I'm never going to be done with it. Going sloooooow. Hard to say what my favorite project is, but I tend to like small things that I can finish up quickly and then move on to the next new thing!

  3. I thought I left a comment about your project but must have forgotten to hit "Publish". Anyway, it's GORGEOUS! The kind of thing that makes me think "I wish I had designed that." :)

My favourite project ... could be my Triplets Scarf (not the one I made for Interweave but my own original version). I wear it all the time because it's cozy and it goes with everything. But I also tend to love whatever I'm working on, which right now is a sort of knitted Fair Isle slipper-ish sock for a Christmas present.
